Alquerque

Dating from around 1400 BCE this game shares some similarities with modern draughts.

The pieces are set up as shown at the beginning and each player moves in turn along the lines to the next point.

 Counters can move sideways or forwards but not backwards.

Alquerque Board This game was played by the Romans, Saxons and Vikings

Opponents pieces can be captured by jumping as in draughts and pieces reaching the far side of the board can only move to capture counters.

The winner is the player with the most pieces remaining when one or other player can no longer make a move.
