The Elder Futhark The original common rune set consisting of 24 runes was in use in parts of Scandinavia until about 700 CE. These are the runes most often described (mistakenly) by “New Age” books as “The mystical oracle of the Vikings”. These runes would have been long out of date by Viking times having been trimmed down to the 16 rune “Younger Futhork”
The Anglo-Saxons on the other hand had added a further 7 runes to give us the “Anglo-Saxon Futhorc” Back to Runes page. |
